3 Records To Own If You Love My Morning Jacket Vinyl
all your favorite bands dawes golden age houndmouth jim james little neon limelight mdou moctar mmj my morning jacket nothing is wrong sedona
The ATO Records artist My Morning Jacket are a band that we’ve followed and loved for over 20 years, since they first released The Tennessee Fire in 1999. That’s right – MMJ is technically a 90’s band! Over the course of nine albums, their sound has shifted and grown from southern rock jam band to genre-defying masters of songs and sound (notably, still featuring sick jams).
Jim James and company draw from many genres to create their delicious musical casserole, and there is so much to love throughout their catalog. If you’re looking for some other artists with excellent songs and inventive takes on classic songwriting, it’s easy to get lost. Have no fear! We’ve put together five records we love that fit just right next to MMJ in any record collection.
Still don’t have your own copy of their latest full length self-titled My Morning Jacket vinyl? We’ve got you covered at Magnolia Store. And feel free to check back for other MMJ albums.
Houndmouth – Little Neon Limelight and Golden Age
Houndmouth are musical spiritual brothers to MMJ in a few ways. Their Little Neon Limelight vinyl starts out with a bang on “Sedona” as they shuffle and holler about Saturday kinda pink, a song that feels as though it could be from any time in the last 30 years. This record borrows many southern rock and country conventions, while the songs remain the focus of the whole run time.
Like MMJ and others before them, Houndmouth changed lanes significantly on the studio album Golden Age, turning out a dancy, psych-rock record about living ads an old soul in the digital age. Fans of MGMT and MMJ’s dancier synth-heavy records will find a lot to love here. Treat your ears to title track “Golden Age” to hear what we mean.

Dawes – All Your Favorite Bands and Nothing Is Wrong
Another southern-flavored band curiously unstuck in time, Dawes always delivers great songs that speak to our hearts. Please, don’t put on “A Little Bit of Everything” while driving, you will get tearful and have to pull over. Lead singer/songwriter Taylor Goldsmith understands how to talk about all kinds of feelings without sounding silly or trying too hard, and their classic Nothing Is Wrong gets us right where it hurts in a good way.
On All Your Favorite Bands, the rock band Dawes goes straight to the heart of things and celebrates the joy of making music and loving music. Title track “All Your Favorite Bands” sings back to us what we all hope for – “May all your favorite bands stay together”. Amen, Dawes. Amen.

Mdou Moctar – Afrique Victime
Part of what we love about MMJ is their musical curiosity and their righteous guitar licks. Mdou Moctar is right at home there, delivering a mesmerizing blend of blues rock and traditional taureg guitar. The Nigerian virtuoso guitarist has truly made something to cherish on his beautiful Afrique Victime, bursting at the seams with soaring solos and hypnotic choruses.
Moctar writes and performs in the Tamasheq language, but there is no language barrier for lovers of inventive guitar jams. Run, don’t walk to check out standouts “Taliat” and title track “Afrique Victime”.
